A prodigy is someone (usually a child) who has an amazing or brilliant talent far beyond the normal. A synonym is genius or whiz kid.
Composer Wolfgang Mozart was born on January 27, 1756. He was a brilliant musical prodigy. By the age of six, he could play the clavier (early piano), violin, and organ, and could write new pieces on the spot. What if you could have any great talent in the world – it’s your choice. What would it be? Why? Write about your imaginary experiences as a prodigy.
Parents: I would like to use email much more as a way to communicate with you. Not only would it be a great way to make announcements, but also I could send quick notes to inform you of behavior, lack of homework, etc…Please email me at bfrazier@jefcoed.com, so I may have your email on file.
Students: Check out the fraction websites on the blogroll. There is an interactive geoboard where you can work on fractions, just like in class.
Pandemonium means a wild uproar, a noisy confusion, or a disorderly outburst. A synonym is chaos. You have heard me use that word before.
Prompt: Every fall, overjoyed baseball fans break into pandemonium over the excitment of the World Series. Pretend you are a sports reporter. Write about an imaginary championship game. Tell how the fans reacted when the home team came from behind to win in the last moments. You should be able to use many descriptive words in your response.
Announcements for this week:
Mid-year DIBELS testing begins on Tuesday.
New on the blog…check out the spelling and vocabulary pages under the calendar and above the blogroll. You can find the spelling and vocabulary words each week on those pages.
When you make a comment on the blog, you may now use your first name; instead of initials.
Since this is a short week and DIBELS testing will be going on, we will not do a reading story this week. So, there won’t be the usual comprehension test on Friday.
Test folders will go home on Wednesday this week.
